Modern Kyusho and Dim Mak dates back to the 1970's and 1980's. Two major sources exist Master Erle Montaigue and Master George Dillman. Master Montaigues Dim Mak focuses on practicality, rather than static KO's no touch KO's and kata bunkai.
The kyusho befor this on the whole did not involve the use of traditional Chinese medicene principals and mainly involved the use of atemi to vital points, nerve clusters, thin skin on bone, blood gates and sometimes the lymphatic system and very importantly how the pain induced in points effects the biomechanics of the person. Kyusho is practiced in a variety of arts, within the Bujinkan and Genbukan kyusho pratice an atemi based kyusho, most traditional ryu's teach kyusho in some form. Most Southern Chinese systems Such as Chow Gar Kung fu, Pak mei, bak fu pai, hun gar and lau Gar all have Dim Mak components, along with Taiji Chuan, Bagua Zhang and Hsing-i.
