Wado’s Pinan Nidan Ohyo
Where Karate and Ju Jitsu meet

In this seminar Shihan Jim Dart, introduces the Wado system of teaching kata by the emphasis of Kaistsu (principles) rather than Bunkai (analysis).

Vital points are included from a variety of sources including:

  • Shindo Yoshin-ryu Jujitsu (Hironori Ohtsuka, the founder of Wado-Ryu karate and former Chief instructor for Gichin Funakoshi, pressured the vital point chart he received from his training in Shindo Yoshin-ryu Jujitsu to Funakoshi for the publication in Funakoshi’s master text ‘Karate Do Kyohan’ in 1935).

  • The 12 Vital Points fromTenjin Shin’yo-ryu Jujitsu featured in Jigoro Kano’s 1931 unpublished work ‘Judo Kyohan’.

  • Vital points taught to Wado students by Masafumi Shiomitsu sensei (9th Dan)

  • Vital points taught to Wado students by the late Yoshi Shinohara sensei (8th Dan)

  • Vital points taught to Wado students by Hironori Ohtsuka III (Soke), grandson of the founder of Wado-ryu.

Many of these will be taught as Ohyo (Oyo) or (practical application), drawn from common principles introduced by Hironori Ohtsuka into his Wado-Ryu karate system including the Kansetsu Waza (locking techniques) & Nage Waza (throwing techniques) derived from Shindo Yoshinryu Jujutsu, Tenjin Shin’yo ryu Jujitsu as well as Shihan Jim Dart’s experience from Kodokan Judo and Small Circle Jujitsu and others.
