Chojun Miyagi (1888-1953)

The Bubishi was referenced by Chojun Miyagi 1934 in edition of ‘Karate-do Gaisetsu’.

Miyagi referenced 28 painted figures from the 48 depicted demonstrating applications from Chinese Quan Fa from the Bubishi in ‘Karate-do Gaisetsu’.

Many of these techniques can be easily identified in the chinese kata used by Miyagi to establish the foundation of the Goju-ryu system and also feature in other old Okinawan karate kata.

Individual recognisable karate techniques are also depicted in these painted figures from the Bubishi and the striking techniques target the 36 kyusho points depicted in the charts used by Kenwa Mabuni in ‘Sepai no Kenkyu’.
