Philosophy

The phylosophy of the ryu is simple,

To stimulate creativity through variation of techniques, to assess on quality of movement rather than memory of set techniques, to create a 'Jazz' method within martial arts, where the student improvises and flows with that improvisation. Fighting is about flow from form, not form in itself. Form in itself traps the mind and stifles the students creativity.

It is this new philosophy of doing thing that enables us to say that we are a Ryu, that we offer a new style as compared to what has gone before.

The History of the Ryu

The Ki-Shin-Tai Ryu is a modern  ryu and we make no appologies for it and no pretentions of ancient histories dating back hundredsof years. Our curriculum stems from a variety of sources that do date back many years, Yamabushi ryu aikijujutsu and goshin jiujutsu we have also taken much from Gyokko ryu KoshiJutsu, Koto Ryu Koppojutsu, Hontai takagi yoshin ryu and Shindenfudo ryu Jujutsu, and Asayama Ichiden ryu taijutsu all of which are respected and acknowledged. We focus on a fluid short range and very natural striking style that stems from Chinese southern styles and our study of kyusho and dim mak (pressure point and vital point arts).

The ryu itself dates back to 1999, and was set up by Sensei Darren Carmichael 4th Dan and Sensei John Savage 2nd Dan.
